On January 19, faculty and graduate students from the History Department gathered at the appropriately historic Bartow-Pell Mansion and Museum to brainstorm ideas for the future of the History Graduate Program.
Under the superb guidance of our chair, Kirsten Swinth, and her trusty “facilitator’s handbook” the assembled Fordham historians suggested and evaluated exciting ideas for new courses, programs, and initiatives.

The Bartow-Pell Mansion is located only a short drive from the Rose Hill campus in the Bronx It doesn’t look like this in January!
Among other exciting news, Professor Swinth was delighted to announce that the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences will be offering five years of funding for all new students enrolled in the PhD program. This new funding greatly enhances the possibilities and security available to students interested in pursuing the doctorate in History at Fordham.

The Orangerie, where we held our meeting
In all the meeting was a great success, with many new ideas coming to the fore. It was also a great opportunity to meet and speak with colleagues and students about the strengths and future of our department in a beautiful winter setting.
